Highway Safety: Move Over for Stopped Vehicles

Buffalo is fortunate enough to have convenient access to highways like the 90, 190, and 290. These high speed roads allow you to travel near or far, reaching your destination more quickly than if driving solely on residential or city streets.

Even if the highway has minimal traffic, stay aware of the road ahead in case a vehicle has pulled onto the shoulder.

If you see a car, truck, or SUV on the side of the road it’s important to:

• MOVE over to provide an empty lane that acts as a safety buffer
• SLOW down when it’s unsafe to change lanes and you must pass closely

Providing these vehicles with extra space is both a courtesy and protects everyone from a potential accident.
